Ambiguous fall weather is always hard to navigate. While in my mind, it’s a 60-degree day, the temperatures rarely cooperate. This means that I’m stuck in a rut of wanting to dress for fall while it still feels like summer. In times like these—of very little fashion inspiration—I always turn to Pinterest to get outfit ideas.
I’ve been an avid lover of Pinterest since I was 17. Being able to separate my style inspiration into different boards and sub-boards always brings me joy. It also makes getting dressed easier. The only problem is that most clothing is still made and advertised for sizes 0-10, and that shows on Pinterest. So when I’m scrolling through my feed and saving cute outfits, I have to do my best to imagine how the outfits will look on a size 14-16.
While I believe Pinterest does a great job of finding and highlighting a diverse crew of creators, it’s simply not as easy to find trendy clothes for plus-size bodies. We aren’t always considered the “aesthetic” people are searching for. But that’s not going to stop me from taking the inspiration I’ve gathered and styling it to perfection. To kick off fall fashion, I’ve recreated some of my all-time favorite Pinterest outfits on my plus-size body. Here’s how it went:
Outfit #1
My take
button-down | bike shorts | bag | sneakers
If the first thing you’re thinking is, “You should steam that blouse,” you’re probably right, but let’s ignore that for now. Of the bunch, this might be my favorite outfit. I’m a big fan of the comfy, chic vibe it provides. Plus, it fits the bill for being perfect in all kinds of weather. I’ll be heading out to run errands and get boba tea in this ASAP.
Outfit #2
My take
bodysuit | jeans | belt | boots
I feel like this is a great transitional look because it has an essence that feels like fall—due to the black tank and boots. Yet, it can also keep you cool on a warm day. However, if the weather is on the cooler side, you can easily add a leather jacket to this look. Although it’s a pairing of basics, I love how it turned out, especially with the silver belt.
Outfit #3
My take
bralette | blazer | bag | skort | sneakers
OK, maybe I lied. This could also be my favorite outfit. If there were ever a reason to ignore the “no wearing white after Labor Day” rule, it’s for this white blazer and skort combo. This look is giving me business on top and party on the bottom.
My hair is rarely styled in a way conducive to wearing a cap. However, if this was a day between wash days, I’d definitely try a slick back bun and cute little cap to top off this look.
Outfit #4
My take
bandeau | blazer | bag | jeans | sneakers
*Sends selfie to the group chat* I immediately had to share this look with my cool friends because I thought it was very much their style—and that says a lot.
I really loved the subtle sexiness of this look and how easily it transitions from day to night by removing the blazer. My first choice would have been to style this with a solid-colored blazer. However, since I couldn’t find my chocolate-colored one, I opted for this plaid. Overall, I love how it turned out and will definitely be wearing it this fall.
Outfit #5
My take
slip dress | belt | bag | boots
Slip skirts and dresses have been hot for years now. I’m honestly surprised that belting one of these dresses never crossed my mind. If you’re like me and you don’t own (or aren’t interested in owning) a designer belt, you can play up the popularity of western fashion by belting this look with a cowboy-centric belt.
Depending on the weather, you can style this look with chunky black sandals or chunky black boots.
Outfit #6
My take
button-down | jeans | shoes
It’s taken me a long time to become a jeans girl—primarily because it took forever to find jeans that made me feel confident and cute—but now that I’m here, I’m never going back. I absolutely loved this look! I could see myself wearing something like this to lunch with my girls or to the office during the week.
